Alerts

Does an alert mean my Mac is infected?

No, not necessarily. An alert means Aegisrook saw something worth a look. Each one says what it saw and the usual innocent reason for it. If you expected it, choose Allow and it won't ask again.

Why do I get a lot of alerts at first?

Aegisrook hasn't yet learned what's normal on your Mac, so the first few days include things that have been there for years. Allow what you recognize and it quietens down.

How do I report a false alarm?

Choose Report a False Alarm on the alert. A window explains what the report contains and lets you add a note and preview it. Create Email opens a message to hi@aegisrook.com with the report attached, and nothing is sent until you click Send. The report leaves out the websites your apps connected to. Reporting doesn't stop the alert; to stop it, choose Allow.

Can I stop it asking about one app?

Yes. Allow it once, or mark the item as known. Everything you allowed is listed under Alerts, in Things You Allowed, where you can undo it.

Setup and permissions

Why does Aegisrook need Full Disk Access?

macOS keeps the list of which apps can use your camera, screen, keyboard and files in a protected place. Full Disk Access lets Aegisrook read that list, show it to you, and tell you when it changes.

Why does the firewall need approval in System Settings?

macOS asks you to approve any app that filters network connections, and it asks twice. The guide inside the app shows which button to click each time.

The firewall says it's unreachable. What now?

Check that Aegisrook is in your Applications folder, because the firewall won't load from anywhere else, then restart the app. If it still fails, send us your diagnostics.

Will it slow my Mac down?

It's built not to. Most checks run about once a minute rather than constantly, and the firewall is the same kind of system extension Apple's own tools use.

Privacy

Is anything about my Mac sent to you?

No. There's no account and no tracking. Aegisrook downloads blocklists and updates, and contacts a few lookup services only when you use a feature that needs them. The privacy page lists each one.

What happens if Aegisrook shuts down?

The app keeps working. Your licence is checked on your own Mac, not on a server.

Buying

How much does it cost?

$30, once. There's no subscription. One licence covers three Macs you own. See pricing.

Can I get a refund?

Yes. Send us a message within 30 days of buying and you get your money back, no reason needed. Read the refund policy.

Something isn't working

In the app, choose Help > Save Diagnostics. It saves a text file with the version, your settings and the recent log, with secrets removed. Nothing is sent until you send it. Send us a message saying what happened, and we'll reply with how to send the file.

You found a security problem

Send us a message, choose A security problem in Aegisrook, and tell us how to reproduce it. Please give us time to fix it before you publish.
